EAB Linear winches are used for heavy duty Subsea pull-in tasks in the range from 30 T to 150 T. Several hundred pull-ins have been performed in the North Sea with EAB linear winches since 1993. The winch is installed by crane or is incorporated in larger multipurpose tools. The main advantages are
- no need for Subsea wire storage reel
- compact design
- possibility to combine with surface (vessel) pull for the initial phase, and bottom pull the last phase ensuring very accurate positioning of the pull head with no danger for clash due to ship motions
EAB light weight drum winches are developed for integration in ROV based pull-in and connection tools. Typical capacities are 10-20 T. These winches are among others used by FMC’s ROVCON, VetcoGray’s ICARUS and Kvaerner’s RTS.
The use of aluminium and light weigh gearing gives a 11T winch a submerged weight of only 120 kg.
